My Works
SHORT:
EVERGREEN - Prelude
2023
Positions:
-
Writer
-
Director
-
Lead Actor (2 roles)
Being 2 major roles on set was a risk worth taking. I loved and regretted every moment of it. The EVERGREEN series is something I plan to extend. I hope to keep making more ambitious and professional projects.
MINI SHORT:
EVERGREEN - Storytime
2023
Positions:
-
Writer
-
DP
-
Lead Actor
An extended monologue that was filmed over the course of a few hours. I challenged myself with limitations on words, location, time, character, scene,... And I learned that limits truly help me be more creative.
Also: an attempt at making my own cinematic universe.
SILENT SHORT:
White Shoes
2022
Positions:
-
Writer
-
Director
-
Producer
My first time directing and leading a crew (of people who were all more experienced on set than me). The silent film was a student project for Toronto Film School. It was an overwhelming learning curve for all parts of the process. I decided that I also wanted to direct after making this film.
FILM PREMIERE:
To Swim Up the Stream of Time
2021
Positions:
-
Exhibition organizer
-
Survey conductor
A ticket-selling premiere for "To Swim Up the Stream of Time", and also an exhibition for the efforts of young people in preserving traditional Vietnamese culture. Espelune collaborated with other groups of young creatives to showcase the beauty of ancient art forms.
SHORT FILM:
To Swim Up the Stream of Time
2020
Positions:
-
Writer
-
Co-director
-
Location Manager
The first screenplay I had ever written. Commissioned by Espelune - a student-ran NGO for arts and music, the script was made into a film to premiere and sell tickets. The profit gathered was used to run arts and music classes for orphans in Hue, VN.
Bio
Hana Vo is a Vietnamese actor, director and writer who is now based in Toronto. Growing up, Hana has always been writing, directing and starring in small theater productions at her schools whenever she had a chance. During high school, the success of her biographical play about Vietnamese poet Han Mac Tu, which Hana wrote and narrated, opened her to many film making opportunities. In 2020, she wrote, narrated and starred in her high school’s musical “Another Day of Sun” - a theater adaptation of “La La Land”. In her own time, Hana was briefly trained in singing and kickboxing.
Having been behind the camera and backstage just as much as acting, in 2022, Hana solidified her commitment to be an actor by enrolling in Toronto Film School’s Acting for Film and Theater program. Here, she stepped out of her comfort zone to try new crafts such as Voice-over, Voice-acting, Improv, Clown, Audition and Self-tape. In Camera Acting, she starred in various silent and short student films for her peers. Hana also played Clementine from “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” (scene study). As a part of the Production Course, Hana has written, directed and played lead in “Evergreen: Prelude” and “Evergreen: Storytime”, the first two of her short film series on the universal struggle of feeling incomplete. In Theater Acting, she was cast as Mary (lead) in “1949” (scene study). After that, Hana played various major roles in the play “Secret in The Wings”, directed by Tanya Rintoul.
After her graduation from TFS, Hana sets out to train her voice more extensively, freshen up her Mandarin and join more theater productions. As an actor, she wants to challenge her versatility in film, theater and voice-over. As a filmmaker, Hana plans to write, direct and act in all her films, which are intimate explorations of her place in the world.
